About Us
NVMICS engaged in the organization's annual regular Community support and development, Access and Inclusion, Addiction, Community Safety and Crime Prevention, Cultural Diversity, Education and Employment, Families and Community Wellbeing, Gambling, Housing and Homelessness, Recreation and Leisure, Employment Placement, Advocacy, Youth support, Care support for women and older people and welfare support. Community languages schools support the maintenance, development and acquisition of languages other than English, connect young Australians to the languages and cultures of their community, enhance cross-cultural awareness and respect for cultural diversity, help multicultural communities learn and use language and connect young Australians to the languages and cultures of their ancestors. One quarter of children from 0- 19 years speak a language other than English at home. Learning a second language can establish a wide intercultural appreciation and cross-cultural awareness. Our community language schools play a role in helping to build strong communities and strengthen social cohesion as well as respect for Australian's many different cultures. Our local community priorities program we work in partnership with other community organisations, information sections with women and girls, youth and new arrived families. We helped a lot of people with referrals to organizations and other sectors, helped out in filling forms for people in need, and helped train people in writing their resumes for job searches. Nakango Vision also helped women with low English language with job seeking jobs through job networks and provided some of them with volunteer work opportunities.
The list of achievements in the past year has once again been very satisfactory, and we achieve these results through collaboration with the fundings we received from FECCA, Multicultural NSW, Department Home Affairs, Investing Women, West Invest, Department of Justice, IMB BANK, Canley Vale CLUBGRANT, NECP, NADC, DSS, Fairfield City Council, CORE Community Services, Agape International Church Ministries, Christ Co-Workers Fellowship, UNHCR, Congolese Community of NSW, , with research and a wide range of community groups, both in NSW and in all other part of Australia. The main issues that have arisen from our work this year have focused around the needs of Fairfield LGA residents for multicultural community linguistics diversity as part of the Domestic and Family violence program, Advocate and seek funding for tenancy support and housing affordability, investigate alternate solutions to affordable housing and SSI Flat Pack, partnering with” big Thinkers” to address supply. Problems experienced by Fairfield LGA residents for non-English speaking migrants, residents’ young people rejected by their families after release from Jail, Asylum Seekers over the past years have also been a major problem in NSW. A major cause for celebration in this financial year is that, on the 7th of April 2022 NVIMCS held a Raising Awareness Conference for Domestic Violence supported by young people from Africa background, Religion leaders as Bishops, Pastors and community leaders from different communities. This is the perfect end for a project aimed at empowering community members to report any crime in their community. NVMICS held a Human Right Skills Workshop. “Fairfield LGA Family Values in Australia” and how families can be protected here in Australia. Our Guest Speaker was MP Damian Tudehop Honourable Minister for Epping Member of Parliament, with Mr Robert Assaf and CALD Community Leaders with their community members from LGA. The event was supported also by Gode Migerano from SBS Swahili Radio Presenter. NVMICS Women group organised “Women Empowering “how women can be involved in a community shared with different women groups from LGAs. NVMICS General Manager was invited as Special Guest speaker to DHA Parramatta NSW Office, the attendance was only DHA workers.
